Long-standing independent bike shop Cyclesense has revealed a complete rebrand as it seeks to reflect its evolution from a local shop to a nationally recognised cycling retailer.

The store, which is a member of ACT and the British Independent Retailers Association (Bira), has revealed the fresh visual identity which it says will embrace the future, while still honouring its roots as a family-run business.

Established in 1991 by David Stainthorpe, CycleSense is recognised as the oldest and largest independent retailer on Tadcaster High Street in Yorkshire. The store’s rebrand is part of a strategic effort to connect its e-commerce platform, which has expanded nationally in recent years, with a personalised local service that Tadcaster residents have come to expect.

John Stainthorpe, who now runs the business alongside his brother Paul after their parents retired in 2020, said: “Our new identity reflects both where we’ve come from and where we’re headed. We’re a family business rooted in Tadcaster, but also one that’s growing rapidly through our online presence.

“Our online business has really taken off, and we want the new look to reflect the trust and quality people associate with Cyclesense, whether they visit us in-store or online.”

The rebrand arrives at a pivotal moment for Cyclesense, which started as a modest market stall with just £600 worth of stock, as the shop continues to grow it’s digital platforms. The independent retailer has also expanded its presence on Tadcaster high street, having moved to a bigger premises from its original unit in 2001 as well as opening a specialist kids bike showroom.

The British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) is a membership group supporting independent shops, hospitality and service retail businesses throughout the UK. Bira brought ACT into its group of retailers earlier in March 2023.
