Suggested workshop repair times

These timings have been drawn up to assist members in setting rates for a job, using their own labour rate. Times include an allowance for talking, preparing etc.

TIME ALLOWANCE

Tune Up Service – Check gears, adjust brakes, lube cables, check tyres and inflate to pressure, lube chain and mechs. Check safety on wheel nuts/skewers, handlebar stem bolts, seat clamp etc.

General Service – Strip hubs, headset, bottom bracket, grease & lube, reassemble + all of above

3 hours

Major Service – Full strip down and clean + all of above RIGID

Fit rigid forks

Fit single crown suspension forks

Fit triple clamp suspension forks

Fit chainset and crank

Fit 3 piece crank set (DMR/Profile/etc)

Remove and refit saddle

Replace inner tube (wheel only)

15 min

Replace inner tube (bike)

25 min

Replace tyre (wheel only)

15 min

Remove rear wheel and fit freewheel/cassette

30 min

Replace headset

1 hour

True front wheel

True rear wheel

Rebuild rear wheel

Remove pedals and fit new

Fit V brakes – complete – levers, front and rear.

Replace brake blocks (front or rear)

Remove mudguards and fit new

Remove bottom bracket and reassemble – conventional

Remove bottom bracket and replace- cartridge type

Fit gear cable

Fit brake cable

Check and tighten crank nuts

Fit caliper brakeset

Fit hydraulic brakeset

Replace chainrings

Dismantle hub gear, clean and reassemble
