Suggested workshop repair times

These timings have been drawn up to assist members in setting rates for a job, using their own labour rate. Times include an allowance for talking, preparing etc.

TASK	TIME ALLOWANCE
Tune Up Service – Check gears, adjust brakes, lube cables, check tyres and inflate to pressure, lube chain and mechs. Check safety on wheel nuts/skewers, handlebar stem bolts, seat clamp etc.	1 hour
General Service – Strip hubs, headset, bottom bracket, grease & lube, reassemble + all of above	3 hours
Major Service – Full strip down and clean + all of above RIGID	5 hours
FRONT SUSPENSION	6 hours
REAR SUSPENSION	6 hours 30 min
Fit rigid forks	1 hour
Fit single crown suspension forks	1 hour
Fit triple clamp suspension forks	2 hours
Fit chainset and crank	45 min
Fit 3 piece crank set (DMR/Profile/etc)	2 hours
Remove and refit saddle	15 min
Replace inner tube (wheel only)	15 min
Replace inner tube (bike)	25 min
Replace tyre (wheel only)	15 min
Remove rear wheel and fit freewheel/cassette	30 min
Replace headset	1 hour
True front wheel	30 min
True rear wheel	45 min
Rebuild rear wheel	2 hours
Remove pedals and fit new	30 min
Fit V brakes – complete – levers, front and rear.	1 hr 30 min
Replace brake blocks (front or rear)	15 min
Remove mudguards and fit new	1 hour
Remove bottom bracket and reassemble – conventional	45 min
Remove bottom bracket and replace- cartridge type	30 min
Fit gear cable	30 min
Fit brake cable	30 min
Check and tighten crank nuts	15 min
Fit caliper brakeset	1 hour
Fit hydraulic brakeset	2 hours
Replace chainrings	1 hour
Dismantle hub gear, clean and reassemble	1 hour 45 min
Replace front mech	30 min
Replace rear mech	30 min
Replace frame (same type)	2 hours
Replace handlebars	45 min
Service suspension forks (elastomer type)	1 hour
Service suspension forks (hydraulic/air type)	1 hour 30 min
